Second Grade
Our Winter Months of December and January
We have had an amazing winter season! During our month of December students learned about the importance of the advent season and the history of Saint Nicolas. We continued the celebration through January as we celebrated King’s Day and shared some traditions we celebrated at home. We incorporated Socials Studies as we observed how different things were from long ago to our daily lives now. We learned from examples of holidays and inventions from back then and now. Students were also amazed on how schools and communities have changed so much and how we are still growing in our society.
In science, students learned about what changes the Earth’s surface and what long lasting affects these changes have. We performed an experiment to see how water shapes its way down mountains to make rivers and lakes. This also helped us to see how rivers have movement!
We had fun incorporating art into our English lessons as we learned about alliteration, idioms, and onomatopoeia. Students had a great time using their new poetic skills to put together a poem about an animal of their choosing. Keep up the great effort second graders!
