Welcome to 4th Grade!

Leap year and February fun!

In February, 4th grade started with fractions and celebrated Black History month by completing a biography project by choosing a prominent African American (past or present). The students choose a president, a businesswoman, Athletes, Entertainers, and Artists. We continued reading Esperanza Rising with a focus on setting and character traits. In Language Arts, we started our unit on point-of-view, discussed author's purpose, and distinguished between homophones. In Social Studies, we followed the progression of California from New Spain to Mexico and the impact of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The students enjoyed their field trip to Medieval Times and created their own coat-of-arms. And we celebrated the start of the Lenten Season on Ash Wednesday with an activity on the three pillars of Lent: fasting, praying, and alms giving.
