Ms. Cecilia Rodriguez
Fourth Grade - Welcome Letter
Dear 4th Grade Parents,
Welcome back to a new school year. It’s going to be a FABULOUS one! I hope you have had a fun and relaxing summer, and hope you are ready to embark in new adventures. This year will be filled with excitement, fun, and lots of learning. Your child will be given new tools and plenty of opportunities to explore and grow in their knowledge. I absolutely love teaching and it is my mission to instill a love for learning as I teach all subjects with great passion in hope that my students develop a desire to become lifelong learners.
My name is Ms. Rodriguez and I am in my 18th year as an educator at St. John of God School. I have two Masters in Education and a Bachelor Degree in Child Development. I will be completing my teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University this Fall. I have chosen to stay at this school for a few basic reasons. One, we are a school community in which all students, and staff members are treated with fairness, love and respect. Two, I have enjoyed assisting in the total faith formation of our children through daily prayer, religious lessons, and school masses. Three, I know that all children can succeed and at Saint John of God School we offer the proper tools and opportunities to do so with plenty of support when needed. And four, high expectations are set for all of our students along with a challenging curriculum, all while using a variety of teaching methodologies and techniques.
I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of grades here at Saint John of God School. I have taught grade 1, 2, and combo classes. I have also taught a summer language arts program to students in grades K-8th and did that for 13 years. I have taught a wide range of subjects to as many as 30+ students per class and have created classroom environments that were stimulating, encouraging, and adaptive to student needs. I have great experience in creative lesson planning, classroom management, hands-on instruction, student assessment, and technology integration. I am looking forward to starting an Art Club this year, along with Mrs. Gunter, and am looking forward to enjoying all the fun that will bring.
My goal is to meet the needs of the students, and through the students, meet the needs of the community and society. I believe education strongly prepares students with vital skills necessary to live a satisfying, meaningful, and productive life in our constantly changing society. As a teacher I will work to make valuable experiences, which will help all students regardless of gender, sex, ethnicity, or ability fulfill potential growth, intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally, and morally.
A safe, positive, and caring environment is necessary in order for students to blossom and grow. And, as a tenet of my teaching philosophy, I will establish a classroom atmosphere based on mutual respect, responsibility, and accountability. On a daily basis, I will empower students to demonstrate leadership, be collegial, respectful, and to partake of actively engaged lessons.
I recognize that each student is unique, and brings something special into this world. Therefore, in my teaching I will incorporate a variety of teaching methodologies and techniques. I believe in the importance of hands-on and minds-on learning as supplementing curriculum with a variety of activities that will be essential to the learning process of each student.
Building meaningful relationships, and going the extra mile are two of my strengths as a teacher. With the development of a relationship that is honest, open, and respectful, students will know that I understand and accept them as they are. Having a positive relationship with my students will allow them to take on academic challenges and work on social-emotional development.
Teaching is a noble and highly rewarding profession which I truly enjoy and have been grateful for. I not only get to inspire future generations, and share knowledge, but I get to have fun with my students as I enjoy their loving, delightful, spirited, and quirky ways. As a teacher, not only will I touch lives, inspire minds, and make a difference, but I will provide students with valuable lifelong tools needed to make their dreams to come true.
I look forward to working with you as I know we are going to have a FABULOUS year! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It is so important to keep the lines of communication open. I look forward to a great year together.
